Your questions, answered.

No automated chatbot, no vague "contact us" deflection. Straight answers about what we do, what we don't do, what it costs, and why.

Safety & Security

  • Is Kyiv safe to visit right now?

Yes — and here is the honest answer, not a PR-friendly one. Kyiv is protected by one of the most advanced integrated air defense systems in the world. Restaurants, cafes, museums and public transport all operate normally. The city has adapted completely to wartime conditions.

Missile and drone attacks happen — usually at night, usually aimed at infrastructure, not tourists. You will very likely hear air alarms during your stay. You will very likely not see a single explosion. The risk profile is manageable and well below what mainstream media implies.

We would not operate if we thought otherwise. Your guide lives here.

  • What happens if an air alarm sounds during a tour?

We follow official shelter protocols — calmly, without panic. Your guide knows the nearest shelter for every tour location. We pause, wait for the all-clear, and continue. It is something Kyiv residents do routinely and without drama.

Air alarms during daytime tours are infrequent. In the event of one, you will be in safe hands with someone who has navigated this situation many times.

  • Is there a curfew?

Yes. Kyiv currently operates under a wartime curfew — exact hours are subject to change and are announced by city authorities. As of early 2025, curfew typically runs from midnight to 05:00. All tours operate well within daylight and pre-curfew hours.

  • Do I need special documentation or a visa to enter Ukraine?

Requirements vary by nationality and are changing. Check your government's official travel advisory and the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine website for the latest. Many EU, US, Canadian and Australian passport holders can enter visa-free for short stays.

We can give you guidance based on your specific situation — just ask.

Booking & Pricing

  • How do I book?

WhatsApp is the fastest way: +380 66 725 23 96. We respond quickly, confirm availability, answer your questions, and agree on details directly. No automated booking system, no middlemen, no prepayment portals.

You can also use the contact form or email hello@capitaltourskiev.com. WhatsApp is just faster.

  • What does a tour cost?

The Occupation tour and the Living History tour are up to €200 per person. The nuclear museum tour is €300 per person (reflects the longer distance and full-day logistics).

These are flat rates for private, fully guided experiences. No entry tickets hidden on top, no "per group" surprises. Additional guests in your group only pay applicable entry fees at sites that charge them.

  • Are there hidden costs?

No. The price quoted is the price paid. Entry tickets to sites are factored in. Lunch is not included in most tours — we will recommend places — but there is no obligation to eat anywhere specific.

  • What payment methods do you accept?

Cash on the day — EUR, USD, or UAH. All are accepted. We can also arrange card payment; confirm this when booking. No deposit is required in advance.

  • What is the cancellation policy?

We are flexible. Plans in a wartime city sometimes change for reasons nobody controls. Cancel or reschedule as soon as you know — no penalty, no drama. We ask the same flexibility from you if we ever need to adjust.

The Tours

  • Are tours private or group?

All tours are 100% private — just your group. No strangers, no fixed departure schedule, no rushing to match a group's pace. The tour adapts to you.

  • How many people can join?

The flat rate covers your group. Additional guests only pay applicable site entry fees — there is no additional per-person guide fee. Let us know your group size when booking.

  • What languages do tours run in?

English, German, and French — all native-level fluency. No interpreter needed. Commentary is in your language from start to finish.

  • Can I see Bucha?

Yes. The Occupation tour specifically covers Bucha, Irpin, Hostomel, and the Kyiv northwestern front — the places where the Russian advance was stopped. This is the flagship tour and by far the most requested.

  • What is the nuclear museum tour, exactly?

A full-day trip (Sunday only) to the Pervomaysk Strategic Missile Forces Museum — a real, decommissioned Soviet ICBM base about 300 km south of Kyiv. You descend into the actual underground launch command bunker, see the missiles, the equipment, the launch procedures. The direct line between 1994 and 2022 is the context.

It runs on Sundays only due to museum access. Price is €300 to reflect the full-day format and distance.

  • Can I customise what we cover?

Yes. Tell us what you want more of — specific sites, particular events, deeper context on something — and we adjust. The itinerary is a starting point, not a fixed script.

  • Do you do airport transfers or hotel pickups?

No. We focus on guiding, testimony, and context — not logistics. There are excellent transfer services in Kyiv. We are not one of them, and we are not going to pretend to be.

The Donation Component

  • How does the defense donation actually work?

Up to 50% of each tour fee goes to Ukraine's defense capability — specifically to verified drone units and equipment procurement that the guide can account for directly. This is not a vague charity fund. It is a direct contribution with a known destination.

The other portion covers the cost of running the business — fuel, access fees, time, and keeping a licensed guide operational in a wartime city.

  • How is this different from other 'charity tours'?

Most "charity tours" inflate prices and make vague claims about donating "a portion." Here the price is a normal market rate and the destination of the defense share is stated upfront. You are not paying a premium for a feel-good label. You are paying a fair price for a real experience, and a portion of that goes somewhere specific and traceable.

  • Can I see proof of where the donation goes?

We can provide documentation and receipts for the contributions. If this matters to you — and it should — ask about it when you book. Transparency is the whole point.

Practical Information

  • What should I bring?

Comfortable shoes — you will walk. A portable charger is useful. Cash for the guide fee unless you have arranged card payment. Sunscreen in summer. An open mind throughout.

  • Can I take photos?

Generally yes, and we encourage it — these are historically significant sites. Some military-adjacent locations have restrictions, which your guide will make clear in advance. Please always ask before photographing locals.

  • Where do tours start?

Meeting points are confirmed when you book and depend on which tour you take and where you are staying. We typically meet centrally and transport is arranged from there. The nuclear museum tour has a specific departure point due to the distance.

  • What currency should I bring?

EUR and USD are accepted directly. UAH (Ukrainian hryvnia) is the local currency — easily exchanged at licensed exchange offices throughout the city. ATMs are widely available and work with most international cards.

  • Is it Kyiv or Kiev?

Kyiv. "Kiev" is the Russian-language transliteration. Ukraine adopted "Kyiv" as the standard international spelling in 2019. It matters — language is part of the history your guide will explain. We use Kyiv. So does Google Maps, the UN, and most governments.
